Certified, or standard — which do you need?
The price for a standard page (1,800 characters including spaces) is 850 CZK for English. The difference is whether your document needs the round stamp of a sworn translator.
Certified (sworn) translation
- Round stamp of a sworn translator registered with the Ministry of Justice
- Accepted by authorities, courts, embassies and universities in Czechia and abroad
- Typically: birth certificate, diploma, marriage certificate, criminal record extract
Standard translation
- No sworn certification or stamp
- For businesses, marketing, technical documentation, internal materials
- Suitable when the document isn't being submitted to any authority
US, UK or Canada — check the requirement before you order
A Czech certified translation with an apostille is accepted in most cases, but some institutions require a translator sworn in their own country rather than a foreign certified translation. This matters most for visa applications, WES or UK ENIC evaluations, and court proceedings. Before you order, it's worth confirming what the specific institution needs.
Which documents do we translate most often?
Unlike some of the other languages we work with, English often involves documents heading abroad — for nostrification, visas or immigration — not just foreign documents coming into Czechia.
Birth and family documents
Birth certificate
Most often for US, UK or Canadian visa applications and civil registry matters abroad.
Marriage certificate
For recognising a marriage abroad or marrying an English-speaking partner.
Education — WES and UK ENIC
For evaluation by WES in the United States or UK ENIC in the United Kingdom. More on the difference between the two in our diploma and certificate translation service.
Diploma and transcript
For nostrification abroad or evaluation by WES / UK ENIC.
School certificate
Usually submitted alongside the diploma for academic recognition.
Most clients dealing with WES or UK ENIC aren't sure whether a Czech certified translation is enough, or whether they need something sworn abroad. We always recommend checking with the specific evaluator first — it saves a lot of back and forth.

What do people ask most about English?
What is a certified (sworn) translation, and when do I need one?
A certified translation carries the round stamp and clause of a sworn translator appointed by a Czech court, confirming the translation matches the original. You need it whenever you’re submitting a document to a Czech authority, court, university, or a foreign institution abroad. More on our certified translation service.
Will US, UK or Canadian authorities accept a Czech certified translation?
In most cases, yes, especially with an apostille attached. Some institutions, though, require a translator sworn in their own country rather than accepting a foreign certified translation. For important matters — visa applications, WES or UK ENIC evaluations, court proceedings — we recommend checking the specific institution’s requirements beforehand.
Do I need an apostille before translation?
It depends on the document and destination. Documents issued by a court or notary usually need an apostille costing 2,000 CZK, while registry-office documents need one issued directly by the ministry for 2,500 CZK. We recommend confirming this with us before ordering the translation, so you avoid unnecessary delays. More on our apostille and legalization service.
How much does a certified translation between English and Czech cost?
The standard price for translation between English and Czech is 850 CZK per standard page (1,800 characters including spaces). A power of attorney or declaration is a fixed 1,000 CZK — this rate applies only to the Czech/English combination. Express turnaround within 24 hours carries a 50% surcharge on the total price.
How long does a certified translation between English and Czech take?
Standard orders are completed within 2–3 business days. If you need the document sooner, we offer express turnaround within 24 hours for a 50% surcharge on the total price.
With English, we see both directions almost equally — people preparing documents to move abroad, and expats here in Czechia who need something translated into Czech. I always ask what the receiving institution needs before we start, so we get the right type of translation the first time.
